GDPR / DSGVO

On 25 May 2018, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) will enter into force throughout the EU. Known in Germany as the "Datenschutz-Grundverordnung" (DSGVO).

The GDPR is to ensure EU-wide harmonisation of data protection and regulate the handling of personal data. Likewise the GDPR ensures by the so-called market place principle that the GDPR is to be kept also by providers from third countries, if they offer their services within the European Union.

Stricter information requirements will then apply on websites. Depending on the design and scope of the content and functions offered on the website, various aspects must be taken into account.

For example, visitors must be informed about activities relevant to data protection that go beyond simply recording the IP address.

This includes in particular:

  • contact forms
  • email newsletter
  • cookies
  • analysis tools
  • Use of social media plug-ins
